    Inspect your replacement parts!!

A tough lesson learned after trying, and failing, to install an rebuilt steering rack for over an hour. I'm no professional mechanic so I thought maybe I was just not doing something right until I gave up and pulled the rack back out to try and understand why it was so difficult to get the column and rack mated up. Turns out the splines on the steering gear where bungled up by some unknown ham-fisted nincompoop. Fortunately, I had a very small hand file in the tool box to clean up the splines to finally get the steering column to side on.

The reminder for all my at-home DIY mechanics out there is take the time to inspect your replacement parts carefully. A couple of minutes can save you a lot of wasted effort and time on a messed up part.

Rebuilt rack from Pelican. I don't blame them since i know they get the rebuilt racks from someone else, just frustrating especially after spending over an hour fighting it.

BTW - Pelican is under the same ‘umbrella’ as ECS Tuning (absorbed BavAuto) and Turner…

So FCP Euro, BimmerWorld and ECS.
