    premium fuel

I saw the Engine Mythbusters show on high octane and was shocked, they got less than 2 HP change switching from regular fuel to higher octane ,and then race octane, on an LS Chevy engine?, so if your not detonating, buying premium fuel is a waste of money

Mythbusters is a fun show and they are very good at entertaining. I can't comment on methods as I didn't see the show but their conclusion here is suspect.
All of it dependent on the "tune" and engine load. Some engines will take advantage more than others.
A few degrees of timing allowed by better fuel on a 5 or 6 liter engine is worth more than a couple of HP. Seems the test subject was happy with low octane or not tuned to take advantage of the better fuel. Seeing the timing and fuel maps would have been interesting.
