Mythbusters is a fun show and they are very good at entertaining. I can't comment on methods as I didn't see the show but their conclusion here is suspect.
All of it dependent on the "tune" and engine load. Some engines will take advantage more than others.
A few degrees of timing allowed by better fuel on a 5 or 6 liter engine is worth more than a couple of HP. Seems the test subject was happy with low octane or not tuned to take advantage of the better fuel. Seeing the timing and fuel maps would have been interesting.
If you can leave two black stripes from the exit of one corner to the braking zone of the next, you have enough horsepower. - Mark Donohue
