hey all.. trying to see if I'm biased in my road/car feel or what:
have driven Zs for 16 yrs now ('98, '02, '04) and just moved into a 2012 M-sport pkg with 12K miles ONE difference.... it's not a manual, first non-manual for me. I bailed on the manual b/c there were maybe 6 in the nation that were both manual and M-sport pkg and I didn't want dark color combo for the ATL heat which limited choices further, so got a beauty white with canyon brn.
I've driven it for 3 wks now and while lovely and fast etc, it feels soft to me. Less feel and engagement... I've read they made it this way with the e89... anyway, I had a local car pop up that I went to drive: '16 manual with M-sport pkg.. so pretty similar. I loved the way it felt.. like I was back where I wanted to be.... so: is it me and the manual desire making the whole ride feel different or is there an actual difference? Anyone know? I can see where the manual car shifting makes a slight difference, but the whole suspension and feel was different to me. In my head?
It’s in your head, they are the same suspension-wise. But I get it. I’m a 3-pedal-only kind of guy but our E89 is a DCT (it’s my wife’s daily driver). I prefer driving my Mini because although it’s much slower, it’s more fun with 3 pedals.
But put the DCT in manual mode and it’s still pretty engaging. I just wish you could program out the “creep”.
Also keep in mind you are talking about two USED cars. Who knows what the state of the shocks and suspension bushings are.
