This is going to be an amazing journey, that's a HUGE engine, how does it compare to an S85? And how much heavier is it than an m70/73 or m60/62?

I always heard it N74 was to tall. Harold on the FB Page states with a Dry Sump it will work.
It will be interesting to see where the Turbo's end up, and how you do the plumbing for the intercooler etc lots of custom fab work I assume. good luck
All it takes is time, ambition, skill and $$$
Harold did indeed say that
What I came yp with allowed the turbos and the intercooler to remain as is... but with the very strong likelihood of swapping to a rack/pinion because that stupid circulating ball steering box is just in the wrong spot. The turbos on my Dinan cars barely fit on the M70 engines, clearing that box by ~1/2 inch
The N74 is ridiculously tall... one of the main reasons is the oil pump that is driven by the rear of the crankshaft. It drops way down below the crankshaft back there. So unless you dry sump the engine and use an external pump, there is no war to avoid a giant lump in the back of the hood. The front of the engine should clear just fine, it is the back that needs liposuction...
Hi guys! We are the crazy shop that's doing this project. Stay tuned to our social media accounts for updates on this beast! We also created our own thread to keep everyone updated!
I can't wait to see some progress!
Another idea is to maybe fabricate lower profile intake setup instead of the dry sump? Not sure what would be easier.
Any idea what transmission you’ll be putting behind this beast?

Who's (mfg) Dual Clutch Transmission / DCT \ were you thinking?

This car (see pic) above is what you are attempting to surpass. This is a 5.4 liter, M73 twin turbo, V12, roller cam, 5HP30, Dinan suspension e31.
Rumor has it: that a car trader in New Mexico sold it to a European buyer some 3-5 years ago.
Yes the M73 engines have bearing'd rollers following the cams on the tubular cam-shaft.

Left - cam pivot
Right - rocker with roller.
The builder (OffCamber) will make the final decision on the DCT that will be used. Not really trying to surpass anyone just want a modern BMW DOHC V12 power plant. I always wanted a E31 and have no interest in a new M8. Wow just noticed the color on the 8 you posted, what color is that , it’s beautiful

The 8HP transmission is the most logical choice, as that is what was mated with that engine originally.
That and a 6spd was and is still an option as projects like this sometimes dictate their own path. This is one of the articles on DCT that made me lean in the direction of the DCT https://www.seemslegitgarage.com/pos...-dct-chapter-1
I believe this color was called 'Orient Blue' and was a special order BMW Individual when the original purchaser ordered the car from BMW.
The only BMW commercial(non race team) V12 BMW DOHC VANOS power plant that went on the V12 of this time period was developed specially for McLaren used in the McLaren F1.
See video after 2 minutes in.

Nope, definitely not Orient Blue. I have an Orient Blue and it's much different than that. My guess would be Velvet Blue, but it's only a guess.
Well I guess it can't be Orient Blue then, because as I remember from when it was listed for sale it was the ONLY e31 in this color blue.
Soooo .... if AUS has same color then, not. "there can be only one", Highlander
I can't find the old sale listing from the pvt dealer in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
https://www.smartmotorguide.com/cars.../bmw-850-turbo
Did find this.... Not sure what this listing contains or how accurate the data contained within is. (only as good as the pvt dealer in Santa Fe, New Mexico presented/researched)
$90k seems optimistic, even for a TT car
