First time BMW owner, need the DL!

    Hey All!

I recently purchased a BMW M440i Xdrive and looking for some insights on key items for my new and first bimmer while I eagerly await for its arrival.

So far I got some weather tech mats but not sure what’s a good decently priced car cover to get (have a driveway no garage) or any other key essentials. In addition looking for some advice as a first time owner as this is my first new vehicle in 10 years! Any insights is much appreciated!

What about ceramic coating the car? Or clear protection film.

Is that done by the dealership or can I buy products to do so ? If so, any suggested brands ? Thanks!

I am sure the dealer would gladly do it as they would charge a significant markup. I would go to your favorite car detailer to see if they do it.

clear protective film would be my first choice , i am surprised i got a very competitive quote for 3m install at my dealer , i think you can ship for ceramic coating after the plastic film is installed

I'd recommend a second job to pay for all of the goodies. Sounds like yours is new, while mine is old, but I can tell you that in two years I've spent more on goodies than I bought the car for.

Newest clear for the bodies is a ceramic - protects better and looks nice. Get a few quotes.

One of the concerns with a car cover is your car should be absolutely clean before it’s put on.

otherwise, you risk scratching the paint by the dirt on the car being ground into the paint when putting the cover on as well as getting the inside of the cover full of dirt and grit so it keeps happening——

IMHO, some sort of ceramic coating would be a much better choice for a car that stays outside.

Finding a reputable detailer would be the first step.

You can have an auto detailer do it, they have coatings that last up to 5 years, and usually charge anywhere from $500-$800 or more, depending on the material and size of the vehicle.

You can also buy ceramic wax / coating online that you can do yourself. This is more economic but only lasts a few months, so you have to keep re-applying once or twice per year.

I have tried a couple from Amazon but have found the products from this company to be reasonably priced and easy to apply. I have done it on several cars with good results.
