    I'm sorry but what does switching the yellow and red wires do?

    1998 Z3 1.9 5 speed
    One will be a permanent live and one will be a switched live. For some reason they are not used consistently, so if you have a head unit that loses its settings when the ignition is off it just means that you have them the wrong way round and just need swapping over.
