I'm looking at an M5 for sale that I am interested in picking up. It has 117k on the clock.
This is my first time driving an M5 or any M for that matter. I noticed that the car had a bit of rev hang around 4k when shifting gears. It hung there jsut for a second or so but it was noticable. I have noticed this on new cars with manual transmissions, its done for emissions. I never imagined an M5 having this. Is this normal or am I looking at a potential issue? My indy is selling it for a client. The indy has serviced this car over 2 years and said that the slight hang is normal.
Thanks

Too bad this sub-forum is dead for E39 M5s.
For anyone looking in the future. Found my problem, it was a missing gear identification switch, only on the M5 getrag trans. Tells the DME when the car is in any gear. This also affects cruise control and works in series with the clutch pedal switch. On the clutch it is the upper switch used to tell the DME when the clutch has been moved from its "engaged" position, or fully released pedal position.
Can be noted with code 80 on INPA. INPA also shows whether this circuit is working under "Switch Chain Grip" in either Digital or Analog values page.
