    M5 rear sway bar

Hello, I know some of you have upgraded your rear sway bar from an E39 M5, my question is, do I need the brackets from a M5 or I can use the one from my car?

According to Realoem the actual bracket is the same for all E39s, it's the bushing that's different. When I changed mine it came with bushings and brackets so I changed then together.

Yep, swap out the bushings, but do so with the bracket too. The stock brackets are aluminum, they give out with the stiffer sway bar, and even quicker if you are running polyurethane bushings. I used the steel brackets from E38’s. Beast Power makes some real beefy red anodized aluminum brackets that sell for about $150.

I used the e38 steel brackets too. When I bought them years ago they were about $4 each, probably $10 now.

Thank you all, The steel brackets are about $14 a pair from fcpeuro, not too bad.

I have an M5 bar w/ stock brackets and bushings. They're fine after 10k miles of spirited driving. I'll just upgrade if/when they break - takes like five minutes once the car's jacked up.

There's definitely and improvement though. If you're on the fence - do it.

I think the M5 sway bar install, which bushing to use, what bracket to use, improvement conversation, etc has been thrashed about 265 times now.

    Bottom Line:
Yes - The M5 bar will bolt on every E39 application regardless of what the parts book says about wagons, air suspensions, Sport vs Standard suspensions, 2.5, 2.8, 3.0, V8, etc.
Yes - The rear tires stay planted and will handle more turn loads so the car stays flatter and will allow greater speeds through the same turns giving the driver more confidence on each turn.
Yes - It works best with new tires and suspension bits
Yes - You can use multiple brackets and bushings (My personal choice would be the Steel Brackets and new OEM bushings) https://www.ebay.com/itm/143830785168
YES - You should replace your worn out sway bar links at the same time.

Is the e39 M5 rear sway bar different than the e39 M-Sport rear sway bar?
