    Clutch successfully broken in! Took a 3 hour trip, no hiccups.



    Having some tire fitment issues. Getting rub at full lock. Tracked it down to the tire hitting the swaybar. Thinking of ideas that might make it clear... Tire sizes are 245/45/17





    Stopped by a muffler shop and got the Dinan tips welded to the Billy Boat exhaust:






    Elsewise car has been rock solid, running daily duties like getting groceries. Something you couldn't even think of when I originally took delivery of the car haha

    Did somebody say turbo?







    Full rebuilt turbo, ready to be reassembled. Painted hot and cold side, and painted the manifold. Heatwrapped the manifold, and acquired a turbo blanket, all in the name of heat management.

    Running the old school T4 turbo from a Callaway kit. Shooting for period hp numbers.

    Ran the boost gauge line, and wiring for oil temp and oil pressure gauges. Will tape wrap it when everything is where it needs to be.


    New cluster as well, with these fancy red needles and a higher top speed. Hopefully this adds some hp, like stickers!




    Following that theme, new hood insulation too!



    And some little interior chrome accents. Helps to brighten up a dark interior





    Beyond the turbo, just scheduled a windshield replacement, and will hopefully get this baby to paint soon enough, to fix rock chips and other imperfections. Still looking very presentable at the moment though:

    Crunch time before the SoCal Vintage meet. Turbo in, and mocking up my intake/ intercooler system.













    Also replaced engine mounts when I pulled the pan to have the return bung welded.
    First test start was a success, no funny sounds from the turbo or excessive smoke. Need to get my downpipe welded up later this week.



    Callaway manifold was a pain to get on correctly, as the fitments are very tight. But once on, I love how snug it hugs the block, and basically is hidden by the stock exhuast gaskets. The goal here is to be OEM + or OEM ish at this stage of the game. So the less that screams "TURBO", the better. Will be retaining the stock cats and billyboat catback to add to the stealth.

    Made it to the event on time, with a little compromise. Lots of great pics on the Facebook group, if interested.





    The compromise in question was fabricating the downpipe without wastegate provision. Was running out of time, and wanted to be able to drive the car on an NA tune. No hiccups.



    You can see we go from a 3 inch single down to the Y pipe which splits to the stock catalytic converter. Will be going back and getting the wastegate dump welded in, along with the wideband o2 bung. Also have intercooler pipework scheduled to be fabricated.

    This neat piece came in too, which I used to run my oil temp gauge and oil feed for the turbo.



    After the welding is done, almost all turbo hardware will be complete. Then it's street tuning time, and when that's done, dyno tuning. My goal is 10 psi, and as close to 300 wheel horsepower as that can get me. Not going to be chasing boost levels, that's my mental cap I have already set.

    Also got some Falken 200 treadware tires mounted, no pics of that. Should help put down the power nicely.

    That housing cap is a neat trick. Where did you source it?

    Also- you have headlight washers? I don’t know if I have ever seem those on anything other than a Canadian spec car!

    I believe this was a dealer option. The wiring for it when I got the car was very conspicuous running the entire length of the engine bay. Factory install was indeed only Canadian or euro spec cars.     Thank you for the heads up, didn't cross my mind. I also have an adapter for the back of the head where the oil pressure sensor, that I could use. Fitment is very tight/tough there though. Always loved your old turbo threads btw

    Thanks man! I talked to Todd from TCD about it, and he said it performed quite well for the period kits, and should be better than an m106 kit. Excited to have an update when she's up and running properly.

    40 Micron sintered bronze filter installed. Easy cleaning/replacement if needed!

    Final tune is going to be on the dyno, and we'll get a wheel number then. To preference, my goals here are 300 whp and wherever torque lands above that (This tiny turbo low boost/ low spool up will probably be torque heavy). Wastegate has a 7psi spring in it, and the goal is to make it to 10psi safely, as a hard cap. Car has a tiny, but hopefully efficient for the space intercooler. Megasquirt PNP, 36lb injectors, electronic boost controller. All of this to give me a nice safety margin and not deal with old school bs turbo tuning (RRFPR, chips, all those bandaid items).
    Main priority over all is maintaining drivability. We will see how the street tuning goes!
