I noticed today that 3 of the small red LED's on my tail light are out. They are all next to each other. Does anyone know if the unit is dying and is it still legal in Pennsylvania to use? Obviously if it gets worse i will replace it.
PennDOT sent out a notice to inspection stations last year that even one LED failure is grounds for safety inspection failure. So, technically that does not pass SI, but chances of getting pulled over for it are pretty slim. Wrong cop, wrong day, you could. If you're not due for inspection for a bit, I think you'll be OK while you take the time to source a replacement.

You could remove the tail light and disassemble it for inspection. Three LEDs in a row going bad tell me that there’s likely an issue with the circuit board. If the LEDs are bad go to www.mouser.com to find replacements.
It was inspected in May and I assume all was okay. Guess I'll bit the bullet and just replace it before I have a bad day. Thanks for your help!
