Lightbulb Carbon Clean the N13 Engine.

    Hey guys,

I have an F30 316i with the N13 engine, i am looking to DIY the carbon clean for the intake valves, but I couldn't find any resource online for details on what to disassemble to get to the cleaning point, any help is appreciated.

    Thanks

There are 2 way to clean the carbon off: Walnut blasting and chemical (Manual or Injected) You will have to remove the intake runners to get access to them and be able to rotate the engine to ensure the intake valves are closed for the cylinder you plan to work on.

Search youtube for "bmw n13 valve cleaning". I found a video for a N20/N26, which is similar and he does the chemical injected type of cleaning. No need to remove the intake, just a sensor is all.

Just as a side note, the N11; N12; N13; and N20 motors are known for having bad timing chains and guides.

Thanks for your input, i have decided to use a spray while the engine is running to clean the valves, i have purchased the (Liqui Moly Pro-Line Throttle Valve Cleaner), but i still need help with where to spray it.

Did you ever figure out the best procedure for this? I'm curious as to where to spray as well on my N20.

You can just remove the MAP sensor in the charge tube, but this can set a check engine lamp as well.
