Nice to see an engine upgrade thread. Im a little late to the party also. When I was playing with my S50B32 in NA form, I basically had a standard engine with Schrick 284 cams and standard plenum, with optimised mapping, cold air and aftermarket exhaust (standard headers) it made 285rwhp on dyno dynamics dyno, so 326 is not so bad outcome, especially on pump fuel. With that extra comp you may be timing limited so perhaps running flex fuel (e85) you could feed in more timing to realise more power across the range without going silly high with the rpm. As discussed, standard headers may be causing a small restriction. Spinning up the RPM may also realise more power but with the long stroke design may be putting lots of load on the engine especially north of 8k rpm.

Gaz, that's where I am (still). With the tuning, did the car respond well when street driven? Meaning, not balls to the walls, lower rpm usage, etc. I'm curious if the 284s can be 'tamed'.

it was hard to quantify as when I done the cams I done the LW flywheel at same time. Lost a little bit of bottom end but the top end was very good. I also used the racelogic and got a 0-100kmh time of 5.0sec without 1 foot rollout, and with the 3.62 diff didnt quite have the legs so needed a gearchange at about 96kmh which added no doubt around 0.3sec to the time.

I found I could still use 6th to about 55kmh, whereas before i could drop the revs stupid low around 35kmh and 800rpm it would still haul 6th

    I have recently built a s50b32 in my e28.

    specs of the engine:

    12.5:1 JE 87mm pistons
    complete rebuilt head
    284 degree catcams
    ZRP conrods
    rebuilt crankshaft
    rebuilt vanos
    EMU management
    CSL style carbon intake
    dw 550cc injectors
    alu flywheel
    custom equal length stainless headers
simons dual 50mm sport exhaust with H pipe

everything is tuned on the dyno with these results as you can see in the dyno sheet. (326 bhp and 340 nm )

I know it is not bad, but with all these mods I did expect some more power.

do I have a bottleneck somewhere or why isn't it producing more power?

one note here, the fans weren't pointed on the air intake which resulted in a IAT of around 70 degrees.

we have tried tweaking vanos map, ignition timing and VE values. but all with no result. The guy who has done the dyno mapping has a lot of experience on s50/s54 mapping, so I don't think that was the problem.

    anyone...?

Have you tried the factory plenum. I've been told by many during my build that BMW put a lot of research and dollars into designing their plenum and that I'd likely loose HP if I modified or changed it. Sorry for the late reply but I've been off the board for too long. Kindest regards,

    Awesome build!
