For Sale: 1988 E32 735i Factory manual with LSD

    Hi all,

I'm a new member to the forum, but not totally new. I've been lurking around for a long time. Thanks to Shogun, Croughton, and many others for the awesome information on these cars. I've reluctantly decided to part ways with my manual E32, and decided to post on here first. The full writeup is attached but with old photos. Car is in the shop now getting ready for sale, and I'll take all the photos as soon as possible. I look forward to hearing everyone's comments, feedback and suggestions. By the way - any idea what the darn thing is worth? If you can't view the link, please let me know - being a new member, I'm not able to upload attachments yet. https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/3hzqb...20rgqzbwc4fquk

    Thanks,
    Keith

Summary: Thank you for considering this beautifully preserved and cared for BMW E32 735i. If you are studying this ad, you probably know what you’re looking at - a fine example of a 7 series with the bulletproof M30 and Getrag 5-speed, believed to be one of less than 300 1988 E32’s with a factory 5 speed manual transmission and limited slip differential (LSD) imported to the United States in this model year. So yes, it’s a rare beast, especially in this part of the world, and especially in this condition. There are currently just under 113k miles on the car, but the mileage will be closer to 114k after I show it in a few weeks at The Vintage in North Carolina. The manual really livens up this car, and I would wager it is one of the top 10 E32s on the east coast, if not in the U.S. Essentially everything that impacts drivability has been repaired or replaced by a world-class European shop. This car has seen under 3000 miles in my 2.5 years of ownership and has undergone a plethora of maintenance and repairs that amount to what I will call a light restoration at a hefty sum. I am a fully transparent BMW enthusiast and collector, and this car is ready to serve its next driver and caretaker. I have attempted to detail everything in this ad. Please ask any questions, and feel free to make an appointment to see the car or just call to share BMW stories. Full disclosure – most of these photos are from the previous owner. I will upload new photos when I receive the car back from my trusted shop, where it is currently receiving a new passenger front wheel bearing and inspection. I assure you the car now looks even better than it did in these photos.

Reason for selling: My heart found an E92 M3 and I have no remaining garage space.

E32s really go for that much dough these days? I miss my 735i stick, the auto I have just doesn't do it for me.

    Hi youngbimmer,

That much dough - admittedly, I doubt it. Any insight into valuations are welcome. These aren't easy to value, so I picked a number on the high end of the spectrum and it will likely be one of those "worth however much someone pays for it" things. I will say my insurer didn't bat an eye at my suggested stated value last year, which of course is only one indicator.

One just like this car hit BAT last year but with 80k less miles, and went for just over $18k which I thought was great (https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1988-bmw-735i-5/) I know this car is not quite the low mileage cream puff that one was, but for the mileage and condition, its close.

And I'm right there with you - I love this car with a manual!

Thanks, beast. I don't disagree with you there. I am not in a hurry, and wanted to use that option last.

I just saw this car the other day on craigslist and it is quite a unique one here in the states, at least from what I've seen for sale.

Very nice car. Not everyday you find one in that shape or mileage.

Thanks all for the comments. I never did sell the car - after a wonderful long distance drive, I fell in love with the car all over again, pulled the listings, washed and waxed, and put away for the winter.

Sweet! I sold my last E32, a 740iL/6 back in 2014 and regretted it for years -- until I bought a 750iL in 2020 while being bored in COVID lockdowns

Nice going Paulmer! I also remember how much I regretted selling my e39 M5, and decided not to make the same dumb mistake with this car. If you or anyone else here wants a manual - I found one a few minutes ago, located on the west coast, and cross posted to the “interesting finds” parked thread:

That was the correct decision. Nice E32s are becoming very, very difficult to find.

I'm not sure what insurance company you're with but last year was my first look at stated value insurance. I sent some pictures to Hagerty and showed proof of another daily driver in the house. They had no problem giving me the same 100/300 plus the same for uninsured motorists and everything else my regular insurer gave me along with a stated value of $20,000.00. I haven't had a ticket or an accident for more than 30 years. Feels good driving now, knowing if somebody hits me or even if the car is stolen I'll get the stated value amount. Thirty years and I never dropped the collision/comp even though I knew they'd give me next to nothing if I were hit. I know my car is worth that amount, and to me it's worth double. You might want to check them out. They're really nice people and I'm in my second year with them.
