correct Dash kit for replacing e39 DSP/nav ---> traditional aftermarket HU

all the dash kits i see seem like this:

which is too short, and has no way to secure it.

    i have this opening:

i have to be overlooking a easy product for this correct?

    Hi,

I think you need to retain or fit the OEM cage that holds the radio cassette/MID display panel and the single DIN dash kit you have will fit over and secure to that, but I'm not 100% on this. Otherwise, you'll need to fabricate something to hold the single DIN item in the dash securely.

Are you absolutely set on a single DIN unit ? Most E39 owners want/wish for a double DIN sized screen and with close to OEM aesthetics which does indeed look really nice in the dash. You can go with a chinese replacement unit (which I'd not recommend overall) or a premium brand double DIN with a OEM look fitting kit/fascia solution.

    Cheers, Dennis!

i thought that too, but the OE nav HU is one single large part that screws directly to that frame in the second picture.

im looking at this double din kit now:, looks like it should snap to the frame?

some backstory. i just got done pulling out and returning a dynavin n7. originally my plan was to drop in the n7, and some bavsound drivers and call it good. but the dsp distorted so early i pulled it for a traditional 4 channel and returned the BAV's for some 5.25 Hertz drivers. next the dyanvin only puts out 1.8v (not 4vper spec) before distortion, so i had to have the gain so high on my amp it really picked up the alt whine BAD

so now im deeper in this system than i planned, and im just tossing in a old single din while i recoup some funds and get my front stage installed

    thanks for the reply's.
