What manual transmission works for the 524TD?

Hi guys and gals, I am relatively new to the e28 world so noobie question here, what is the best transmission (manual) to switch up on my automatic 524TD? I recently picked up a nice euro model but automatics are not my thing and yes, I will be switching up the BBS rims LOL

Congrats on the 524Td, one of the nicest diesels I've had. All the trannies are interchangeable in the E28 production span. You might want to get the Getreag 265 which is the stout-iest.

This is not true. The 524td is an m20 variant which has a bell housing pattern specific to the m20 & diesel models. The m30 based e28 gearbox will not work for him 'unless' you're specifically talking about the g265/6 with removeable bellhousing. This will work across the e28 platform if you have the correct bellhousing for your application.

@sharski, my rusty memory tells me you'll want to find a 5spd 528e for your swap. HTH!
