Transmission case sleeves, ZF 4HP22/24 EH valve body questions

Any one know which transmission case sleeves between valve body and transmission case seating for gears from first to second ? Thanks in advance !

I think you need to explain the issues a bit more with the change between gears, there are a lot of problems that are caused by other issues, eg: faulty solenoids, speed sensors, low oil level, old oil ect.
Have you checked the basics first, including checking trans fault codes?
As far as I am aware, the case sleeves supply oil from the filter to the trans oil pump, and from the oil pump to the valve body, though I am not a transmission expert

have you checked the repair manual? I assume you are talking about 4HP22 https://drive.google.com/file/d/1jmm...hJKJsBNnx/view

I don't think so oil go to there. As far as I am aware, the case sleeves supply oil from the filter to the trans drum hole while this gear in and from the oil pump to cooler and back to oil pan. Or possibility those hole in drum and other packs for just to oil return to the valve body. One transmission mechanic told me if one of those sleeves lock come out than spring become loose and transmission will no work right. Another transmission mechanic said it will not charged anything.

Shifting problem. When gear shifting it is shifting to early as suppose to be from first gears to second and from second to third and from third to fourth. The problem is in the engine ECU code 54 stored. Code 54 is converter clutch drive position switch. The code 54 every time stored in the engine ECU when lock up clutch is turned on. The TPS 6 wires looms connector has 3 wires for automatic transmission TCM and 3 wires for the engine ECU pins 6 idle pin 4 is ground and important pin 5 is wide open throttle when throttle plate fully open and when throttle plate open half only than the TPS pin 5 is not get continuity with the TPS ground pin 4. The TPS pin 5 and pin 4 gets connected that time when the throttle plate is fully open. When throttle plate is open half the TPS pin 5 which is wide open throttle it is not connected to any where except in the circuit board gets short to the engine ECU pin 54. If the engine ECU pin 54 or the TPS pin 5 is disconnected then code 54 is not stored in the engine ECU.

did you meanwhile overhaul the valve body? Did you check all the solenoids in the valve body? Did you change the ATF filter and ATF fluid? Did you check the speed sensor in the transmission?
All this can be found here, how to measure, pinout of the trans plug, test data http://www.bmwe34.net/E34main/Troubl...ch%20Guide.pdf

Valve body overhauled by dealer in Quebec and also they put it brand new solenoids which has different ATF pressure and the sensor. The guy who rebuilt transmission in Toronto he put new ZF ATF oil it takes 9.5liters which is normal.

Which shop overhauled your valve body in Quebec? Are you satisfied with the work and can you give a ballpark for the cost? It's something I'm considering for my 4HP22. I'm in Quebec also.

6225 Rue Saint-Jacques W Montreal, QC they rebuilt valve body and put it in brand new solenoids which has different ATF pressure. They installed automatic transmission output sensor. They charged for it $1700. Shift solenoids they installed isn’t working properly.

too much ATF can cause foaming in the transmission. Check once more the correct way, it must be checked with engine running.
4HP22/24 with dipstick and filling from top thru dipstick pipe: 1988 E32 owners manual states on page 63: automatic transmission, checking oil level: the car must be standing on a level surface with the transmission at operating temperature 80 degree Celsius. Allow the engine to idle with the selector lever at P or N. Pull out the dipstick, wipe it with a non-fluffy cloth and push it back to measure the oil level. It must be between the two notch marks.
The quantity of oil represented by the space between the two marks on the dipstick is approx. 0.3 liter when the transmission is at operating temperature. If necessary, add fresh ATF at the oil level check pipe.

Yesterday went to MR.Lube in Mississauga they checked automatic transmission oil level they sucked up 1.5 L was over filled. Car was running with over filled oil in transmission since winter time could cause any problems for shifting ? After when they sucked up 1.5 L I go on road didn't charged anything gust a bit.

I hope they checked it the correct way as I described above with running engine = checking oil level: the car must be standing on a level surface with the transmission at operating temperature 80 degree Celsius. Allow the engine to idle with the selector lever at P or N. Pull out the dipstick, wipe it with a non-fluffy cloth and push it back to measure the oil level. It must be between the two notch marks.

    Check once more by yourselves.
transmission fluid will become foamy if there is too much fluid. Excessive fluid prohibits proper lubrication and cooling and slows the rotating crankshaft, similar to the effect of running through water. When the air above mixes with the high levels of fluid, it creates a foamy substance that saturates the transmission. This can lead to:
    Part pitting
    Poor shifting
    High internal temperatures
    Seal failure.

    Too much fluid problems :
    https://itstillruns.com/problems-ove...d-7410466.html
    https://www.carbibles.com/too-much-transmission-fluid/
    https://mechanicbase.com/transmissio...-transmission/

ZF mentions on their website: if the oil level is too low, it will damage your transmission, if the oil level is too high, the excess oil will leak thru the overflow/breather valve at the rear top of the transmission when heated, the escaping oil can ignite on hot parts like for example the exhaust.

That was done by them exactly like you write. After I checked by myself it was between two notch marks. What about to adjust valve body solenoid by turning left a bit ?

you mean the line pressure valve? We have done that on a 4HP24 with M70, a lot of work, cannot be done in one step, we removed the ATF pan several times and adjusted the valve slightly step by step, oil pan on, ATF in , test drive, not good, same procedure several times till it was better = softer shifting, that is trial and error.

Yes pressure valve solenoid adjustment screw. By turning screw to open it makes higher pressure in the valve body. What will happen if one of the lock spring sleeve is loose and touch valve body it will loose oil supply to front section of the gears has short springs and rear has long. I think it will loose oil supply between case and clutch drum itself where friction plates seating. Another possible think balls not right size or cap place it up side down.

Do you remember what size hole did you made it ? There is valve body solenoids hole can match it with valve body solenoids assembly hole. This hole approximately 2mm diameter.

I'm not talking about this adjustment. I'm taking about solenoid itself turning left or right to match it up with solenoid assembly there is a hole inside assembly and fluid can spray to gear set.

I have no experience with this, never tried, if that is possible.

I've already figured this out....just a matter of clutch material in the torque convertor lockdown solenoid screen.

Maybe you start somewhere else to fix the trans shock problem, as the valve body has been overhauled by a shop, so that should be o.k.
    I would try
another transmission control unit just to make sure the problem is not the TCU, have recently read of some cases of defective TCU and a friend also had a defective TCU on his 750 and that was solved by changing the TCU, probably a defective capacitor inside the TCU.
Then I would try another (new) throttle valve switch TPS, #2 http://bmwfans.info/parts-catalog/E3..._housing_assy/ double check p/n with your VIN
also here I have heard of shock shifts in automatic transmissions and that was caused by defective TPS .
Or test the TPS as per the Bentley manual.

    you mean these holes? https://transpartswarehouse.com/6942...body-only.html
Nothing mentioned in the shop manual about this, just install the valve, add the fixing fork, tighten the screw https://workshop-manuals.com/landrov...(mv_1_amp;_2)/
    https://workshop-manuals.com/landrov..._valve_(mv_3)/
refit1. Clean pressure regulator and mating face with a lint free cloth.2. Position pressure regulator to valve body, fit Torx screws and tighten to 8 Nm (6 lbf.ft). 3. Connect multiplug to pressure regulator solenoid valve, fit clip and secure harness to
    valve body.

Yes that holes goes through there is two of them one of those can face assembly hole. And one more open and close by needle.
