    2011 F10 535ix cabin filter change

I just changed the cabin filter in my car. The filters I took out had their arrows pointing towards the firewall. Most of the videos I saw said to put in both filters with their arrows pointing towards the cabin. There was one video that stated to put the filters in with the arrows pointing towards each other.
Does anybody know definitively which directions the arrows on the filters should be pointing once installed.
    thanks

The instructions that came in the box said to point the arrows toward the cabin…and that was also the direction of the arrows on the old filters I removed.

The pic below is from the BMW TIS…arrow is pointing toward cabin:

The only reason I questioned this direction is because then it would seem that the air is being double filtered. BUT I found debris in the rear face of the front filter. Which would make me believe that teh air from the outside is entering the middle of the 2 filters.
This is way above my understanding of the outside air system.
Hope somebody chimes in who has taken the system apart and can shed some light on how the ducting is run.
    Thanks

As I mentioned in post #3…the instructions that came in the new filter’s box as well as the BMW TIS says the arrrows on BOTH filters should face the cabin…and when I removed my old filters…the arrows were facing the cabin.

I recently found a BMW tech PDF for the climate control system and it verifies why the arrows (on the filters) should face the cabin.

What we CAN’T see from the disadvantage when replacing the micro filters…is that there’s a baffle between the two filters along with the ducting from the fresh air intake as well as the recirculated air intake that routes the air to the backside of each filter (the side that’s closest to the engine bay)…the air then passes through the rear of each filter…out the front (the side that faces the cabin)..then through the climate control system’s evaporator and on through the air ducts into the cabin.

So BOTH filters should have their air direction arrows facing the cabin!
