Hey looking for some tires in stock size in stock wheels 17x7.5
I don’t want to go for a different size, so any recommendation in the 235/40/17 size on the e36?
Tire rack options are: ultra summer
1. Yokohama advan fleva v701
2. Toyo proxes sport
Extreme summer options
3. Yokohama advan neova ad08
4. Dunlop direzza
5. Toyos
6. Others

Leaning towards ultra high performance summer. Car will not be tracked or autocrossed
Any suggestions or advice from those that have used the above or who want to recommend another tire. Again I want to stick to 235/40/17.
Thanks
I’m about to jump for the Flevas. They’re supposed to be very good for tangibles like steering feel, so they ought to be a good fit for the E36. I’ll report back if I can get some mounted this weekend.

I have the Flevas and recommend. Great feel, plenty of grip and solid wet weather performance. Not too loud and they hold up if you want to do a few autocrosses. They seem to match well in the relatively smaller sizes necessitated by older performance cars. If you're not tracking those other tires on the list are way overkill for the amount of power our cars put out. Another good option would be the Continental ExtremeContact DWs.

Tires I run or have run.
Michelin PS4
Continental Extreme Contact Sport
Falken RT660
Bridgestone G Force Rival S1.5
The fist two I daily drive on and they are very comparable. The second two I autocross on and loved them both.
Honestly, my recommendation is to go 245/40-17. The choices in 235/40 are not great.

I've been trying to hold back, but that's been my experience as well (and is probably why OP is asking in the first place) - selection is pretty sparse.
I understand a 245 can look a bit swollen on a 7.5 front wheel, but they fit fine and open up a lot more selection (though even then... 17s are getting more scarce and are a pretty small diameter for any modern car. Even Camrys these days run 19s). I ran 245/40 square on stock staggered wheels for 5 years.
But a 245 is the ONLY choice if you want to run some modern tires like a PS4S. Their 235 is only available in 235/45/17.
This is similar for the other popular / regular summer tires. A bit too tall or too wide are your only options.
I have the Advan Fleva v701s, 235/40R17, on my Mazda MX5. They are great tires for the street - good grip, good wet and dry traction, quiet tread pattern. And they have a 300 tread wear rating, so they’ll last long.
The only negative that I’ve experienced with them is that they feel like they form a ‘flat spot’ when they sit for awhile, so the first 1-2 miles of driving feels a little lumpy. But that’s only after sitting overnight, or perhaps 12 hours or so.

The Flevas flatspot? That’s probably the biggest reason I’m trying to get away from my Federals... how bad would you say it is?

DOT #s? DOT 4UU6 + S/N?
As far as how ‘bad’ the flat spotting is…as I said, I have them on a 2008 Mazda MX5, on 17x8 wheels. The MX5 has a stiffer coilover suspension (6k/5k springs), so perhaps the flat spot ‘bounce’ gets highlighted by the higher axle frequencies that these springs have. But while I notice it, it isn’t annoying, disturbing, etc. It’s just a characteristic that the car did not have with the same suspension, but stock tires (205/45R17 on 17x7.5” wheels), so I know it’s a result of the tires.
If my E36 M3 was in need of new tires, I would not hesitate to put these on it. It currently has Bridgestone S04 Pole Position tires, sized 225/45R17, because when I needed tires for it a few years ago, the selection of 235/40R17s was limited (and I didn’t want a 200 TW tire on it for normal street driving). For the track, I use Yokohama RA71Rs, 245/40R17, mounted on 17x8” wheels.

Was set in the Flevas but can’t find them in 235/40/17.
Planning on sticking with stock tire size of 235/40/17.
Anyone know where I can source the Fleva or have opinion on another tire in the above size? Looking for a summer tire.
Tire Rack has them on back order.

That’s where I bought mine, and had them shipped to a local Firestone for installation.
A few months ago I got a nail in one, so I had to replace it. Tire Rack said they were backordered, but then I received it within a week.
