    Newbee question z4...

    Hi

    So i just got a 2011 s35i z4, hard top, roof was opening great last week end, not anymore...

    Trunk is empty, pannel is down in the trunk, i try to open it, i get a ding sound and red light on the button, roof won t open...

    I added a video

    Any advice would be greatly appreciated

    Yes indeed, the issue was to lock in the safety bracket in the trunk... the structure that prevent you from putting too much stuff in the trunk.

    And, i did feel quite dumb once i realised what the issue was!

    Now you know about the E89 top issues. Time to change those salmon relays on the top hydraulic unit, located just aft of the battery in the trunk. If one of those fail while the top is down, you can't get to them to change them. While in there look for signs of water intrusion in that well. Water in that hydraulic unit will be a expensive fix. There is no way to get the top up, once down without the hydraulic unit, or a trip to the dealer, and lots of money. If water intrusion is found look in the next compartment to the right. That is where the top control module lives. Water in there is even more expensive if the module fails. The actual top has many sensors, either hall proximity sensors, or micro switches. One or more switch failure, your top stops where it is. Good luck, enjoy your Z4.
