Hey there! It’s been a long time as my BMW ownership has lapsed for a few years. Having previously owned 3 bimmers (‘01 740i mSport, ‘88 535is, ‘03 540it) I’m familiar with the experience, however I would love to hear some advice on a possible new purchase.
It is a 2012 740i with 111k on the clock from a local dealer. Asking price is $12,500.
Any input on price or major issues to look out for would be appreciated. this is a decade more modern than what I am accustomed to, so there’s likely to be a bit of a learning curve.

Always do a pre purchase inspection
Hi there,
I own a 2014 F01 (740Li xDrive). My advice would be to purchase the car but be sure to get some sort of warranty with it. With that high mileage, things are bound to go bad. (I'm not here to scare you away from buying, I'm here just to be fully transparent)
Here's a quick list of what I have changed on my F01 with approximately 64,000 miles:
1. Water pump / thermostat assembly (this was done by choice, I did not want to wait for it to go bad)
2. Front control arms, ball joints
3. Valve cover gasket, oil pan gasket, oil filter housing gasket
4. Spark plugs, ignition coils, fuel injectors
5. Boost solenoids
Again, this list is just to be transparent and provide some insight into what may be needed on the car. Like the saying goes, if you take care of your car, it will take care of you.
Also, from a repair point of view, I believe you are making the right choice going the 740 (inline 6) instead of the 750 (v8) simply because it is easy to fix and has less problems.
Best of luck,
Christopher F01
