550i E60 N62 TU 4.8 Engine rattle at idle only at full operating temperature

Hello to everybody, I was trying to find the source of a noise coming from the engine of my 550i E60 the noise appears to be coming from the top part of the engine it does it only when its idling and only when it reach full operating temperature.


There are no noises at cold stars and the noise automatically stops when you step a little bit on the gas.






So far I did the following things:


Scan with INPA and ISTA (No codes where found)


Check the Valvetronic motors and reset the positions with ISTA


Check eccentric shaft teeth and were good with no wear

Could it be the intake manifold valves?

Just curious if you ever found the solution. My 06 550i 6MT just started making this exact noise

Yes it was the belt tensioner that was bad I replaced it and the knock was gone, check your water pump also to see if it has play on the shaft.
