    Turbo LS e39 Touring

I finally found an e39 touring worthy for the build.

    20210525_131919.jpg

I purchase a 2010 Camaro SS a few months ago and have this ready to go in:

    20210531_113922.jpg

I'll be getting a WiringSpecialties harness. Likely going with a Haltech ECU but hasn't been finalized just yet. As you can see, I have the SIKKY pan and engine arms on it. Plan to go with a single GT42 turbo and a little boost. Phase two is build a truck iron block and run e85. Hopefully I build the iron block before I turn the boost up too much on the Camaro aluminum block!

I don't think I have the skills yet, but I'd like to figure out how to mount a Ford 8.8 in the rear. Anyone here have or know someone who has said skills?

I think the GT42 is going to be too small for you. I ran one on a 383 sbc and the turbine side was definitely too small. I measured ~3x boost pressure between the engine and the turbo on the dyno. Spool up was instant, though. I think the GT42 turbine is better sized for a 4.8 or 5.3. I think the 6.2 is going to need a GT47 turbine or similar.

Thank you for the feedback. I don't want a laggy turbo, hence why I think I'm going to stay with it for now. If it dies up top, I can always step up. By then there will be a new, greater turbo with more efficiency!

A dozen years ago on my first turbo build ever, I went with a T4 instead of T3 and spool suffered. I've since erred on the side of caution and stayed "relatively" small. My m3 is running a PT6466 and maxing out at 870whp. I wouldn't change a thing there. My 996 is running two 6266s and they're a bit laggy. Can definitely make a decent amount more power than it's currently making.

Well, you definitely won’t be laggy with the GT42. I shut off the Dynapack I was running on because of over-torque. After that, I made another hot side for a T6 turbine inlet, then switched from a T4 0.96 a/r to a T6 1.15 a/r housing, which seemed to help but I never dyno’ed it again. My C5 RS6 with stock K04’s reminds me a lot of the old Malibu with the GT42. Spools instantly and pulls like a freight train but all done around 5.5-6k rpm. If that’s what you’re looking for then it should be fine.

Thank you for that feedback! You've described what I'm looking for, yes.

I've decided to give the rear subframe an attempt on my own and hope for the best. I've never tackled a serious aluminum project before. First step, cut out the stuff that's in the way!

See what a C grade hacker can make out of this. Picked up an Explorer differential at a local wrecking yard for cheap.

Pulled the engine and detailed the engine bay a little today.

Actually went in really easy with the SIKKY kit. Only thing I should have done prior was remove the sway bar. Sway bar hits the bell housing.

What is the space like on the Sikky kit to fit a down pipe? You have any shots of spacing around the mounts?

It's looking pretty good. I only have the one picture that doesn't even show the mount in the picture but gives an idea of the space. I know I can fit a 4" down pipe between the header/AC compressor/AC lines. I'm going to see if I can jam a 5" pipe down there.

After some consideration, looks like I'm now leaning towards the Garrett GT4508R 108mm (80mm) w/ Compact 42, DIVIDED 1.01 AR T4. Leaves room for growth for when I have a built engine but should also spool early enough for my liking.

I'm trying to find a T4 flange but instead of having the inlets straight up, I need to have divided T in opposite directions. Kinda like the one pictured, but actually divided and also of higher quality. Machined would be perfect. I need a very tight 90 degree entrance from opposite directions. I’ll mount one manifold almost directly onto the T4 flange and then the crossover pipe would come in the other side. Otherwise, in order to use this sweet Street Carr Fabrication T4 flange I got, I’d need a number of really tight radius turns.

This is wonderful and similar to my end goal.

Are you going to integrate cruise control and AC in an oem like manner ?

I'll have AC but the cruise control is not on the list. I rarely drive far. However.. maybe one day if I get bored?

I just joined the forum to follow your thread. I just picked up a 99 540i and I have an LQ4 sitting around begging to get built and swapped in eventually.

That's great! Welcome to the forum. I'm trying to help keep this place alive. Builds on facebook are impossible to follow. bf.c is searchable for(ever?)!

Curious to see your down pipe fitment with the sikky mounts. With Josh’s mounts I went under the arm but it looks like the sikky is placed a little lower and you are going over the engine mount arm and under your header.

Yup. I'm going high with the passenger header and directly under the header is a 4" down pipe. It clears the sikky engine arm and leaves room for the e39 BMW AC compressor in the stock location. I've bent the AC lines pretty good. Probably have to re do them, but looks like it all fits.

When you have time post some pictures of the routing. I’m curious to see how much clearance.

Haven't worked on it much the past two weeks. Here's a shot of the 4" down pipe next to the starter/bell housing.

Very exciting stuff. I definitely agree on the facebook thing, that and too many people asking questions they could find with a quick google search.
