Looking for any input from anyone who has replaced the mounting studs for the engine cover. It's a piece of rubber with a threaded stud on each side. The stud does not protrude through the whole rubber so it's hard to twist off, as the rubber just twists. I tried installing two nuts on one side to jam one nut in place but the rubber just twists and seems to want to tear off. I'm hesitant to cut the mount in half and try to grab the remain stud to remove from the valve cover for fear that it will be hard to twist out from the plastic. Before anyone asks I want to do this because the threads are corroded and one is stripped. So has anyone successfully replaced one?

if not too much material has been removed by the rust, you could consider recutting the thread on the stud to make it work again. I'd prefer that to possibly rip it apart and be left with an iron stud in the aluminium head.
Mine came off with a good bite of the vice grips.
Worked perfectly. This is definitely a case for vice grips. The plastic valve cover has brass inserts where the studs screw into so you’re not likely to damage the cover. Grab the mount by the washer, don’t worry about getting the lower stud. Let the rubber twist. Carefully keep twisting and it will come loose.
