Hi, I have a question about replacing my 6 CD Disc player. My car is a 1999 323i convertible. The player is mounted in the trunk and is in need of help. I came across another one that's in a 2004 530i that is also mounted in the trunk. Can this be adapted to my system? I think that it's mostly going to be a wiring question but I'm not sure. I don't know if they have a brain to tell them to change tracks or discs and will be compatible with my existing AM/FM/CD/Cassette player. The donor car also had a BMW navigation unit in the trunk but I know that isn't going work in mine besides I like my Garmin portable. Thanks, Jim
Go to www.realoem.com and enter the last 7 characters of your car’s vehicle identification number. Hit enter and bookmark the page. Scroll down to audio/nav and click on the part # for the CD changer (it’s a link). See if the 5 series is there. I don’t think it will be as the 2004 5 series is the E60 chassis. If the car was an E39 then I bet the changer would work.
I was wrong went back today to the salvage yard and pulled the 6 CD player. The donor vehicle was a 1997 530. We'll see. Jim
That might work.
Hopefully I'l get started on it in the next couple of days. Right now I'm installing new power seats in my stepsons Dodge van. His power seat went south. I did some measuring and the seat bases from a Grand Cherokee were pretty much a drop in. Took me longer to pull the wiring under the carpet to the passenger seat than the actual driver side seat install. They had glued the carpet down (it's a conversion van). Will finish up the passenger seat tomorrow. Jim
Well I dropped the CD player in and it was an exact match. Seems to play pretty good also. I'll have to take it out on the road to make sure. Jim
Good job!
I'm considering swapping out my manual seats for power seats. I've found a donor car that has the same color interior and is an E-36 body. I've got check to see if they have the heater in them. Mine are heated and that's a plus here in Idaho. Jim
Your car may not be wired for powered seats.
I haven't checked into it yet but I could just tap a hot lead. One question though on a seat with memory is the memory in the seat itself or in a computer somewhere in another location. Jim
You want to use an always on power source. I think the seat memory for both seats is in the drivers seat.
Thanks, I just replaced the power seats in my stepsons Ram Van. It had had a power drivers seat and the motors failed. No parts available of course. Used the seats out of a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee was almost a drop in. Had to make a couple of brackets and cut a slot for clearance on the passenger side but the seat bases were almost a perfect match dimension wise. Pulled the power from the drivers side for the passengers side. That was the hardest part they had glued the carpet down (conversion van) but I got it done.
