So my wife's 2017 X1 is due for an oil change.. I actually change the oil in all my BMW's at 7,500 miles regardless... first time to do this car.... where the heck is the oil filter housing? 30 years of BMW's with the housing always in plain sight, drivers side towards the front of the engine. Nope... one video showed it behind the engine... nope! Not there either. Took some more internet searching just to find it's upside down, underneath the engine, next to the oil drain plug. Which moron German engineer came up with this? I guess since they'll be all electric in 10 years, they don't care what is easy for maintenance. Just find some other way to torture us DIYers. </rant off>
Lime Rock Park... the most fun you can have in a mile and a half.
I just purchased a 16 for my daughter. Can't wait for that first oil change! Ugh.

Follow up: OMG what a pain in the butt this was. By the time I was done, it looked like the Exxon Valdez had been parked in my driveway.
Prior models had the oil filter housing on top and it would melt the gasket all the time because heat rises, causing oil to leak from top to bottom and degrade components all the way down. I think this is why it is on the bottom now.
