    Driveshaft lengths

Are all driveshafts the same length in the rear section and just the front section changed depending on trans? I just did an e30 diff and I have an s52 swap. Right now my driveshaft is 60” with the rubber bushing still attached. I need it the driveshaft 1/4” shorter.

S52 swap using E21 shaft? Cause if using a E36 shaft there's the telescoping center that easily makes up for this.

There were several different E21 shaft lengths if I remember. We laid a few shafts on the floor when building ours to cut the best choice out of the bunch. I think different years and auto vs manual, 6 hole vs 8 hole guibos etc.

Cutting 1/4" hmm if e21 subframe just move in the diff in the slots a bit. If another subframe yeah probably going to have to cut down a front shaft.

    S52 motor I'd want a E36 or E30 6cyl shaft.

I am having a local driveshaft shop cut it down. Easy enough. I could not use the e36 driveshaft as flange size was different and I dont recall a telescoping section, I would have to double check. Been about 2 years from when I did the engine swap.

I had my 323i e21 cut for the M5 medium case diff. WIth the two piece e21 driveshaft, only take the length out of the back half. It has a joint in the middle and you do not want to take it of both the front part and the back half. I had mine modified - shortened by BEYER driveshaft, they also rebuilt it.
