Any One Experience This & Suggestions: Move my harness around to do valley pan, upon reconnecting harness I am getting 1253 #3 injector check engine light.
- Check #3 spark plug + weaved ground cable - OK
- Swap #2 coil with #3 coil - still error code 1253
- Check Ohms for all 8 injectors reading 15.1 - 15.2, #3 injector 15.0, so replaced with new one - still error code 1253
Engine runs with a small hint of rough idle, but check engine light prevents passing smog.
Not sure how to check harness to make sure #3 injector connections are working,
Any instructions or suggestion appreciated. Thanks
Have you tried a noid light to confirm #3 is getting a good signal to fire?
I saw this done online, but the E34 has that strip of modules that plugs all four as one piece on each side, I guess I can remove the #3 and fit one in.
But after identifying no juice on#3 how do you trace and repair the break? That harness has a big turn on plug and also the module looks like it has lid that can be removed.
Sounds like you got all the right ideas if it ends up being a broken wire or connection. There isn’t that much distance to cover between the ECU and injector. Google the e34 ETM and get familiar with it. It will tell you pretty much everything you need to know about wire colors, gauge thickness and component locations.
But before you tear into it, definitely check for a signal at the injector 3 connector.

More difficult to use noid since the ridged strip that connects to all the injectors and has no single available gap to insert light. Removing the injector to make room for noid is scary since pressurised gas will leak out over light ..... I will try inserting a wire lead to the two pin and connect to noid. I am wondering if testing noid just on the strip with whole row of injector unconnected is possible, since the engine will be operating on four cylinders from the other side. Will test with one bank or strip out first ......
You might try popping off the harness covers and back probing the injector harness to connect the noid.

I was careless when inserting the strip of connectors and bent over one of the injector pins #4 ..... was able to straighten it out ..... had the harness disconnected to do manifold CCV plate, and head cover gaskets and was very careful this time around in making sure it connected correctly ..... and the check engine light went away and no longer rough idle .... SOLVED ....
Nice! Hope it stays that way.
