Hey everyone. I have to get a first key made for a 1973 2002 tii. The original has been lost. I've called several locksmiths in the Central Ohio area and as soon as I say BMW they are out, saying they don't have the right equipment. Is this really that hard? Should I push harder to get one of these guys to at least try? Or is it so complicated and difficult that I should just keep calling until I find someone. Thanks!
Adrian
The original keys were made of steel. Most key cutting machines will be damaged by cutting a steel key blank.

Your friendly BMW parts guy can order ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT keys already cut if you supply VIN, Driver's license and proof of ownership.
Or try these guys: https://keys4classics.com
They can supply new keys cut to the code from the lock (sticker on/near ignition, door, trunk barrels, or in the owners handbook (if you have it and the locks are original).
