Thread: Motronic 1.3 Conversion Project on my E23

    You will have to run a 12 gauge wire from the black block to a 30 amp inline fuse to the positive battery terminal post (see pic below).

    In the pic below I had to use the y jumper setup for the main relay because I believe I have an ongoing issue which I believe is coming from the fuse box. I tried different 5 pin main relays and none of them seem to work. I would only get crank but, no start (no fuel, no spark). Maybe I have the wrong relays? I dont know, I'll figure it out later.

    Anyways, I cranked the car up today and it starts and runs! Engine sounds smooth as butter! Feels like a new car! Motronic 1.3 FTW! I have not test drove the car yet. I have to do some cleaning up and put in the radiator and other stuff. I'll figure out how I'm going to mount the ecu and relays in the glove box later.

    Wanted to give you all an update on the car. I took the car on several trips and the car runs and drives great with the motronic 1.3 conversion. It's waaay better than the old 733i harness and components. I'm very pleased.

    Is this is a 733i motor? Can you give more details on power delivery, throttle response & mpg? Thanks!

    Thanks, its a m30b34 motor out of a 1985 735i. I was running 733i wiring electronics on the 735i motor. The motronic 1.3 is way more superior over the old electronics. I have more toque, the motor is more aggressive and responsive and its reliable! I've been driving with this setup and its awesome!

    Update: I fixed my battery drain issue that I have been dealing with for about 10 years now. I tried multiple 5 prong bosch/aftermarket relays and they didnt work. The car would crank but, would not start. I was doing some research and I decided to purchase a BMW DME relay and give it a shot. The car fired right up and has no battery drain issues when you leave the car off!

    Been driving the car everyday with no issues! The Motronic 1.3 setup is reliable and dependable!
