2nd Bimmerforums post...
I recently bought a 2008 328 XI as a winter beater / grocery car, but it has way less power than I'm used to. I'm not looking to turn this into some sort of high performance car, but I'd like to get a little more out of it, maybe somewhere in the 300hp range, but everything I're read so far (not a lot admittedly), suggests this isn't a very tunable engine.
I'm curious what are the most cost effective power upgrades that can be made to the N52B30 powertrain ?

300HP from a 3L engine is unlikely without DRAMATIC modifications and probably requiring some form of forced induction.
Also, while I do agree that the 328xi doesn't feel fast, its certainly not slow. Its just so smooth that it feels deceptively slow.
Can't think of many cars that break the 1 HP/L barrier without forced injection or are high revving sports cars to begin with (Integra/Civic Type-R, M3, M5, Lambo, Ferrari...).
