Is there a link for wiring diagram or instructions on how to bench test an instrument cluster to turn on the odometer when it's out of the car? I have a 12v battery tester I just need to know what wires to power up and what wire/wires are ground.
Get your wiring diagrams here. https://bmwteka.com/wds

There is only one thing more pleasurable than working on a Z3, that's driving it top down on a fine day.
This kind of info is very tough to find (unless you read through all the documents and experiment). I think people don't like to share this? I have never found a pinout for a benchtop harness for a cluster, so here is what I did.
I use: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1sKu...ew?usp=sharing for my wiring/pin out.
On the X16 (white) connector:
Pin 12 -> Pin 7 of my INPA OBD2 connector OR Pin 3 of x60001 connector on my DME benchtop harness (MS42+, I can connect my 98+ Z3 cluster to PAsoft 1.4, and with a galletto cable, I can get it to connect to NCS Expert. With INPA cable I can connect to INPA)
Pin 22 -> 12v
Pin 24 -> Ground
X17(Blue connector):
Pin 4 -> 12v
Pin 5 -> 12v
Pin 16 -> 12v
I think you can get away without the K-line cable to get this to illuminate. There might be more pins you can power for more things. This gets the odometer to light up for me.
Hope this helps.
Hey guys. Hopr you can help.
Will the e36 cluster also work on bench with the classic d+kcan cable (with the switch, binmergeek) or do i need an ads interface, icom or an special cable like galetto to run it with ncs expert?
Thanks![]()
