Hi there I have run into a problem for the second time on this generation of X3 and I was hoping for some help.
I have disconnected and reconnected the battery and have lost some key fob functionality.
Before the disconnect it locked and unlocked fine. After reconnecting the battery it unlocks fine, but will not lock. This has happened twice to me with two different X3’s and I can’t seem to fix it.
I have tried the sync procedure numerous times, and it doesn’t help. Rather, while I’m holding down the unlock button the windows and sunroof do their convenience opening instead.
There is no lock cycling, I have tried position one, two, starting with the doors locked, unlocked, over the right shoulder, etc...
I know the button works because it was fine before disconnecting the battery in the trunk, and the fob must be somewhat synced because unlock and window opening works great.
How to get the lock function working again?
Live, Love, Life, Amazing...
Maybe check the battery in the key fob? Similar problem in jdm I had was battery. Good luck
Ah! Great! I just had this similar situation and posted just this morning...
Someone is looking out for you....hope this helps!

Hey guys. Battery in the fob works just fine. Keep in mind the lock and unlock buttons on the fob worked perfectly right before disconnecting the battery in the trunk. Upon reconnecting the battery the fob works to unlock everything, and roll down the windows, but won’t lock the car. The central locks work great with the key in the door, and from the centre button. I just can’t seem to get the lock button synched.
Each t8me you try an and sync the key lock buttons and fail, wait a minute open and close the drivers door, the doors have to be closed by the way when doing this
The problem is that the fob is already synched. When I start the procedure and hold down both buttons, the windows start coming down. The unlock and trunk buttons work as they should as well.
As I said this has happened to 2 consecutive X3’s that I have worked on, both times the keys worked as they should, and then after disconnecting the battery the lock button no longer works, even after synching. Both times the unlock works as it should.
So frustrating.
