    Camber Question '01 Z3

38,000 miles on the '01 Z3 3.0, about to take the plunge on a front suspension refresh & more. Car is original, no accidents & as mentioned low mileage. Wheels are the style 42 staggered set, 17' diameter. Noticed more wear on the driver's front inner edge than on the outer edge on the tyre. The passenger side also has more wear on the inner edge than the outer edge but not as big a difference as the other. The tyre set has approximately 15,000 miles & are to be replaced due to age. Interestingly the rear set is worn evenly across the tread. As there is no camber adjustment on the front suspension, is the likely cause of the pronounced wear on the drivers side front tyre due to incorrect toe-in adjustment on that side? Are there other possible causes of this wear on both front tyres? Might the OEM camber adjustment bolts & washers (p/n 07119900587 & 07129964661) provide adequate adjustment to help this situation enough to avoid the expense ($380.00)of the K-Mac adjustable plates? My plan is to take the car to the shop who will rebuild the front struts to have the alignment checked before tearing into the strut rebuild. Due to the staggered rims, front to rear rotation is not possible but the tyres could be dismounted and swapped left to right etc. to keep the asymmetrical tyre rotation going in the correct direction but need to avoid direction tyres or is this incorrect? Whole lot of questions & obviously I need professional help! TIA!

I think the first place to start would be to have a professional alignment done. They will provide a printout of before and after measurements, and have each measurement compared to factory specifications (and how close it is to that spec) From what I am aware, a sportier car like a Z3 will have a more aggressive factory alignment, which might not be the best for tire wear.

@Rhino7200, you & I are on the same page as to the starting point. What I am discovering, which is disappointing, is that there are few shops in the Tucson area which specialise in BMW & can do the alignment. Most shops sublet the alignment work which is not what I want because if the alignment is to specs when checked, it will need camber adjustment plates & that shop will rebuild the struts. Here is another question. If I rebuild the front struts myself with stock parts, no camber plates, when reinstalled, is there only one way to do so & there are no slotted adjustment points? As long as I do not mess with the tire rod ends, my understanding is that the r & r of the front struts is plug & play. Only front end adjustment is in the tie rods. Yes or ? Any one else want to jump in here on this topic, perhaps someone who has been here, done that? Any comments on the camber bolts?
