The Fuel Filler Nozzle on the hose at the gas station frequently shuts off. You know how it stops when the tank is filled? It does this on my car several times, my guess is that there is a vent hose that's kinked or the charcoal canister is clogged, or some combination thereof. I find that the problem is worse at some pumps than at others, but when I find a bad pump, it can take a very long time to fill my tank. I have learned to use the same island at the same gas station (Costco) to keep this to a minimum, but the idea that it changes from pump to pump or from station to station tends to discount the pump or the station as the problem, this leaves the car as the weak link.
Has anyone had this happen, and what did you find.
In this diagram, Item 13 vents from the tank directly into the filler hose. If this hose is clogged or kinked, it would not allow air to escape as the fuel flowing into the tank creates a decreasing space to hold the air, the affect would be similar to putting ketchup into the bottle, there would be air bubbles that cause the gas to back up into the filler hose and this could cause the gas station pump to click off.
