I've owned 2 540iT wagons so far and have since been scouring the country to find a clean example. After basically giving up on my search, this car fell in my lap. Before then, I instead pulled the trigger on an E39 M5. Since this wagon was too good to be true, I bought it too. I've since picked up another car on my list: a 2001 740i M-Sport, so I am strapped for garage space at the moment. I have only owned the car for about a month, and the more I drive it the more I wish I could keep it. Does anyone want my 740i instead? Hmmm. A little info:
2000 540iT Sport (M steering wheel, sport seats, sport automatic, 4:3 navigation)
- technically a one-owner car (a bought it from a woman, her father was the original owner. She didn't have the car long, and I could tell from the maintenance history that the car was very well maintained by an enthusiast)
- minor modifications (ST coilovers, exhaust resonator/barrel delete (it is open, I was planned on welding shut), M5 wheels, etc.
- maintenance records are consistent, the car is well kept
- 114k miles, no check engine lights
- tires, brakes are solid
- interior is clean, driver's sport seat has a small rip (I bought 740i M sport seats to replace these)
- paint is 7/10, interior is 8.5 to 9/10
- very minor accident reported in December 2020 (a driver was parallel parking and backed into the wagon with their Civic. Front bumper and headlights were replaced. I have pictures saved of the damage. This is the only accident the car has been involved in)
- very very minor rust spots on the tailgate and rocker panel near rear wheel well (typical spots)
Here's what I've done so far:
- my friend was parting out an Oxford Green E39 sedan, so I bought some parts off of that for the wagon to be pristine regarding paint (M front bumper, hood, aftermarket DEPO headlights, floor mats)
- 740i M sport seats (no rips, only cracks, but I am restoring anyway. I can include these in the sale at an additional (but cheap) price)
- new power steering lines
I have not registered the car yet but plan on doing so on Feb 22. I don't really want to sell the car considering how long its taken me to find, but for the right price I guess I could let it go. I was planning on having it detailed, but with all the snow we've been getting it has proven to be difficult. If I don't sell it, I will continue building it up and likely sell my M5, 740i, or my racecar instead. I am an indecisive person if you can't already tell.
$10,000 for everything (M bumper, hood, headlights, floor mats, 740i M sport seats)
Please call or text me at 908 917 8397 for photos/videos as well as maintenance records, Carfax, etc.
Please do not reach out to me if you need to sell your car first, ask your wife, wait to get paid, etc.
I'm glad you're so far away or I'd be very tempted to grab this. Good luck with the sale.
Does anyone want the 2001 740i M sport I just bought? I am considering selling that instead of the wagon.
This is a beautiful wagon. Does it have heated seats?

Sweet ride, and a perfect compliment of additional parts; already "hunted and gathered"! Well played.
Sharp touring. My favorite wheels, and possibly my favorite color combo.

Was this for sale a couple of years ago? I saw one similar spec (Central NJ craigslist), but with M-Pars on it for a price I could afford, but bringing 2 e39 540 wagons to store in my parents garage (as I don't have one myself), especially within a 2 week span, would've been a big no-no. Looks great, happy I got my Glacier Green one, but this color is stunning
Current:
2000 RHD Euro Sport Slicktop 540it Glacier Green/Black
2009 LHD e92 335i Sport Black/Black
Former:
1997 5sp locker 4Runner Green/Beige
1991 Buick Park Avenue Gold/Beige
I doubt it as the previous owner had the car for a very long time. When it was posted I jumped on it immediately.

Also the car is still for sale. I know I said earlier that I plan on keeping it, but I’ve run into an unexpected living situation. I won’t have enough garage space at my next place.
Feel free to come take a look whenever you like.
Beautiful car!
BUMP this car is still for sale. Just did valve cover gasket, fluids, alignment, new fog lights, used M bumper. Runs and drives great. Fast car. Need to sell before June 1 or I will keep it

Curious if you've decided to sell the M5 rather than this
Yes! I sold it. Great car, but this wagon is super cool.

Timing chain guides have not been done but the car drives great with no issues. Engine runs well, I am always very careful with it and regularly change out oil with what is recommended to keep the timing chain guides intact. I plan on eventually doing a S62 swap at some point if I keep the car.
I just found this thread....looking for a clean wagon for an LS swap. Is it still for sale or is it not for sale now, since you ended up selling the 7-series?
