This might be a dumb question, but here goes anyway.......
The stock head unit in my 2004 E46 330CI has several greyed-out areas, so I’m thinking of replacing it with an Alpine ILX-W650E.
The potentially dumb question is: will I still be able to access the computer functions, (consumption, etc) through the new unit?
Or is there a better idea?
Cheers, Peter
Hi,
There's no high quality & established car audio brand head units that directly support the BMW OBC functionality. If this is a *must* for you then you'll need to look at the chinese replacement type head units running Android and use the Resler Interface with the iBus app. Running such a unit has it's own set of advantages and disadvantages. The alternative is that you could run a Car PC/Tablet/Raspberry Pi type install and use that Resler Interface and other software which is capable of translating the Ibus information to display on-screen. I can't remember the names of any specific apps etc, but searches should see you find out.
The above is of course until there's a solution developed to run on/with high quality double DIN head units to display the OBC information!
Cheers, Dennis!
Thanks Dennis,
Much appreciated.
