05 cooling fan options

My stock fan is not working, all the connections at the plug seem to trace back appropriately.

A code sets for the fan not coming on. So my question is related to that.
If I use an aftermarket fan like mishimoto, ($80 and not $300) won't a code still be made since they are only 2 wire fans and the dme "sensing" wire is left alone?
How does the aftermarket fan turn off and on if the stock wiring hot and ground are constant and the 3rd wire is the activating wire?
Or is the information I read that days such blatantly wrong?

Yea. I found one at a junkyard that works. So happy I didn't have to rig one up. New ones are crazy expensive. Ridiculously expensive actually.
