I pulled out the transmission and I changed out the input shaft seal, selector rod seal (pain in the butt, I had to say a prayer), output shaft seal, selector rod, and dowel pin.

Out of all the seals the input shaft seal was the easiest . The other seals I can explain . For the selector rod seal you will need to use a pick tool, a narrow flat tip screwdriver, have alot of patience and yes pray that you get the old one out . The output shaft seal you will need an air or electric impact gun (the best and easiest tool imo), a 30mm 6 point deep socket, and you need to grind down all around the outside wall of the socket with a dremel or grinder in order for it fit in the shaft to loosen the nut (pics below).

Tomorrow, I'm going to add the other parts to the transmission like new transmission mounts, shift plate mounts, etc.

    Here we go!

I have to order a new output flange nut and lock ring, I messed up the old one (minor set back). I'm waiting on some more parts to arrive like a coolant hose and I'm going to change the hose going to the steering box and power steering pump from the reservoir while I'm in there. If its not one thing its another but, its all good.

I added a new gas pedal and installed the clutch pedal box in the car, feels nice having 3 pedals

While waiting on parts to arrive I decided to paint my air box.

Update: I got the new output flange nut and lockplate installed on the transmission and I took the driveshaft to a driveshaft shop to install new u joints (u joints were crimped in, no snap rings needed), center support bearing, and got the driveshaft balanced. We lookin' good!

Sorry, its been so long guys. Been busy with work and family. Anyways, I had some time to remove the exhaust, driveshaft, and automatic transmission from the car. Getting there slowly but, surely. Next I will be changing the rear main seal and that gasket behind the head (I'll take pics in my next post).

What did the driveshaft shop charge you for new joints Finding places to do them is increasing in difficulty.

They charged me $150 for labor. I purchased the ujoints from autohausaz. I believe I paid like $12 bucks each.

Does anyone know what this circular part is on the back of the block above the rear main seal? Does this look like a oil leak? Could my oil leak be coming from here?

That looks like it is maybe a freeze plug.

Great deal for that labor on the joints!

Yep, probably freeze plug. Would have to eyeball my spare block to verify.

Heck yeah, it was a great deal! Granted I had to drive an hour from my house to get it done but, it was well worth it!

Do you think freeze plugs can leak oil? Now I'm wondering if it was coming from the camshaft plate on the back of the block and leaking down on to the freeze plug?

Alright, I finished installing the new rear main seal and I also installed a new camshaft plate gasket. The camshaft gasket was easier to change with the transmission out of the car and using a 10mm offset spanner (wrench). I believe the oil was coming from there or the rear main seal. When I would drive oil would land on the exhaust and start smoking. Also, oil was dropping into the bellhousing and and it would pour out through the plastic screen on the transmission.

    Hopefully that will fix that!

Anyone know the actual name of this part and where I can find one? It connects to a coolant bypass hose on the back of the block.

So today I installed the clutch pilot bearing, flywheel, clutch and torqued everything down to specs. I was gonna put the transmission in today but, had trouble mounting the transmission with my floor jack and lifting it up towards the bellhousing . I'll figure out something when I get some time to work on it this week.

Can anyone confirm if this is the correct side the selector rod should be on?

Only way a freeze plug can leak oil is if you have oil in cooling system.

Good progress, forgot...what clutch kit did you buy?

Ah, Sachs makes a nice setup. Gonna be weird for you... a pit gear and overdrive!

When you jump to this, keep looking for a 3.46:1 at least. That 3.25:1 is lame.
