Whats going on everybody? I'm doing a 5 speed swap on my car and I have decided to just create 1 thread rather than creating multiple threads asking different questions, lol. Also, maybe this thread can help others in the future aswell.
So, lets get started. I have a 1983 BMW 733i. I purchased a 5 speed swap kit from a 1983-1984 BMW 733i. No, its not a getrag 265 (even though I wish it was) its a regular getrag 260. It was a deal that I couldn't pass up. This kit came with "almost everything" needed to do the swap. Transmission, flywheel, transmission brace, clutch pedal box, all the bolts and screws, shift parts etc.
Right now, I'm working on removing the auto pedal box assembly from the car and I need some tips and advice on how to get this thing out. So far, I removed the front drivers seat and I dropped (lowered) the steering wheel column by removing 4 x bolts. Now, I'm a deer in headlights and dont know what to do next. Help a brother out.

Wish I could help you out, but I did the five speed swap on my 745i back in 2000.... and I have slept since then.
I do not remember having to pull the front seat.
I don't remember the pedal box being that big of a pain.
Now we cookin' with Crisco! Finally got the pedal box out! I had to loosen the steering column nut and pull the column out completely to get access to the pedals. Here are some pics.
I test fitted the manual pedal box and it fits perfect! Also, when your taking out the pedal box make sure to loosen the throttle cable bolt located inside the engine bay it is attached to the pedal box. I believe its a size 30 star bit?
Next, I'm going to paint the manual pedal box and assemble the box. Also, I will need to get a new brake booster/master cylinder while I'm in there. I'll keep you all updated on the progress.

Ireland Engineering will lighten, reface, and balance that flywheel for $200. May give you a better deal if you already have the 14lb flywheel.
There is a local place by me that can resurface the original 733i flywheel that came with my kit for 30 bucks. I'm gonna go with them. I appreciate it bro. @Hit Man X

Good deal. My local machinist is backed up bad so was unable to fit mine in!
Luk makes a great clutch kit for $270. I drove one my in Powerstroke for years and my Civic has one too.
Alright, so I removed the brake booster and master cylinder from the car. I purchased a new master cylinder (pic below) and I'll be sending my brake booster (pic below) to Mr. Jay Stratton to get it rebuilt.

Jay is your guy to do this job

Agreed in having Jay reman it. Back in stoneage we did it ourselves in chassis.
I painted and assembled the manual pedal box. Also, installed new accelerator pedal bushings. My automatic pedal box never had the accelerator bushings. I installed them on the manual box and its a huge improvement in the overall feel of the pedal.

That looks great, it's so nice to have the whole box out to paint and rebuild like that.
Mexicellent work.

Thanks everybody! Anyone know how this clutch spring is supposed to be positioned in the pedal box? Do the 2 metal tabs go in the slot or grooves of the pedal box or what?

Ok, I found out how its positioned. It has to go in the grooves of the pedal box, silly me.

Got my brake booster back from Mr. Jay Stratton. Looks really good.

Highly advise replacing the clutch spring with an improved unit from BenGerman over on the mye28 forum. This this is beefy and will never fail like the OEM unit. I'd imagine the spring is interchangeable across chassis. Tell him I sent ya!
How far along are you now?
Hopefully doing trans case seals while in there! Most all manual guys swear by half and half of Redline stuff. MTL and MT-90 as I recall. Key to know is a GL-4 rated oil.

@Hit Man X Yes, I'll be working on changing out the transmission seals and other parts on the transmission like the rod joint etc. this week. I will post more pics.
So, GL-4 is the way to go? I was gonna cheap out and put some walmart gear oil in there.
Do you recommend the Walmart 75w-90 gear oil?

Got a used good working B35 starter that I cleaned and painted.

No no, that is GL5. That is bad for the syncronizer rings.
I would flush it with cheap ATF. Then drain and refill with Redline.

Yes, that is the stuff I used. I cannot recall the exact capacity, sorry. 2qt area sounds reasonable. I always buy extra in the event I spill
