Angry 12/1994 m3 crank no start (fuel pump not activating)

Short version - car has sat for 4 years (gfs old car), I started working on it a few days ago...fluids, plugs, boots, etc.

Cluster is bad (6Ps and erratic CEL), so can't do a stomp test (sending board to solder quartz to see if that helps before I send it off for a resto at baravian or somewhere).

Anyway, new battery, go to start it, cranks, no start...don't hear fuel pump...checked relay (clicks), jumped relay, still no pump sound. Replaced Crankshaft sensor this morning, still no fuel pump sound.

Ordered a fuel pump, but it won't be in till Friday.

In the meanwhile, is there something else I can be checking? I'm reading about EWS, but being a 12/94, I'm assuming EWS 1 (if any?) and wouldn't that prevent cranking?

What else could prevent the fuel pump from running?

Thanks all, need this thing to run before we sell the house next month...was supposed to be a weekend project lol (they always are).

Oh, and I've tried code locking/unlocking the car (setting a 1111 code on the obc and unlocking) as well as the lock all doors with key then unlock.

Car has spark (visual plug in coil test), so that (and anything controlling both) isn't a culprit.

If you jumped the FP relay, and you don't hear the pump (I would check fuel pressure instead of just listening ... might be more conclusive). But if it's not running, either your pump is dead, or the wiring to it is dead (unlikely, but possible I suppose). Did you check FP fuse (do the easy stuff first, lol).

Did you remove the FP access cover to see if the wires are intact? If it sat for years, might find that the wires have been chewed through.

If the fuse is good, is there 12volts at the FP? A fold down rear seat car is very easy to run a jumper wire from the battery directly to the FP.

Seats are coming out today to do that (along with redoing an a-pilar trim, rear pillar and removing a shoddy job on a speaker install by...a female whom shall not be named...

I'm assuming the FP has a + - on it like others I've seen.

Fuse was first thing I checked, followed by relay, then jumping the relay.

FP wire has +12 and GND. GND in BMW is always brown, or brown with a stripe (red or yellow usually). The FP has green/violet as the +12 source from the relay.

Not sure why my post didn't show, but thank you for this info, I'll remember that going forward.

Tried jumping pump directly from battery as you suggested, nothing...so bad pump.

    Thanks guys!

Pump is dead when jumped, so that was it. Just wanted to cover my tracks so nothing else came up.

She fired up and died on starter fluid, so I'm cautiously optimistic. Now on to the little things.

    Thank you everyone!

Look at this ugly thing I pulled out...filter had fallen off long ago, and rust all over thr bottom of the tank (obviously cleaned it before installing the new one).

She runs...now to reinstall the cooling system and interior. Fun beans.
