Just got my Roadstars back from being refinished at Prince Wheel, which as the S54 guys probably know, is the e39 M5 community's go to place for Chrome Shadow.

Fun fact, our center caps are NLA. Original is left, part that supersedes it right.

They look great!
Is that a franchise? I had wheels done at a place here near Charlotte called Prince Wheel Services.
Zed's dead baby. Zed's dead.
Same place!

How much and did they have to fix any rash or just color?
Mostly just a refinish...my I was always very careful with my wheels. They did straighten one of the 4.
It was $850 or so shipped back to me, and cost $150 to get there. So roughly $1000. M5board members get a small discount too.
Looking clean! And that new center cap is an improvement IMO

oh man, that's on the list. mine are shot.
what's their process? is it a powdercoat? mine are flaking, unclear if they were refinished before or not...
It's a multi-stage powder coat. Starts with Black as a base, then has a silver and clear i believe.
Mine were looking pretty sorry as well. Overdue. Note to self: clean wheels more often, brake dust is not nice to the finish.
Yup it is a powdercoated gloss black base, with a special silver paint sprayed on top which is designed to be somewhat translucent with some metallic flake mixed in. Then it is clearcoated on top of that
I have had some luck with shops recreating the finish by mixing a silver paint (like for a hypersilver or gunmetal finish) with a clear coat when spraying on top of the black, but it gives at best a result about 90% of the luster of the original and most shops aren't even willing to experiment with that method and I don't blame them. Prince is the only shop I know of that uses the original silver paint sourced from Italy (which was prohibited due to EPA regulations or some hooplah, I don't know, hard to separate the wheat from the chaff when researching that kind of stuff) and they do a great job. For those who need that 10%, and there will only be more as time goes on, Prince is a solid bet. E39 M5 guys have been shipping wheels to Prince since at least 2008 and they are a picky bunch

How long does the process take? I could do with a drive.
They quoted me about 5 days for a full set of I shipped them in. I did inquire about driving down, staying somewhere, leaving the car with them, then driving home. They said they can do that too, but first appointment was Feb 1st. Not exactly sure why coming in person was slower than shipping.
Finally got them mounted up. Bad lighting in the parking garage, but you get the idea.

I just installed Michelin Pilot A/S 3 on my Roadstars in stock 225 / 245 sizes. Fronts were 45 lbs and rears were 50 lbs.

I have a set that needs some love - or need to go away. Previous owner plasti-dipped the wheels after patching curb rash with bondo...

I picked up a set of Style 68's for the old girl. I'm walking by her in the garage every day and I'm in purgatory. The wheels "can pass" as-is but Prince Wheel is a 30 minute drive.....
Zed's dead baby. Zed's dead.
If you all send wheels to Prince, I'd recommend asking them to send you the wheels back using the packaging you sent them down in...assuming you'll over engineer your boxing/padding. I got two back the first time in a standard box that fedex found a way to damage. They took them back, fixed them up, and sent them back a second time in a standard box with much less packaging than I sent them down in, and the inside lips got a bit scuffed once again.
Decided I was exercising the definition of insantiy trying a third time, so just kept them.
Seems you might want to require Prince to use the boxes and packaging you send your wheels down in when they send them back to you...a standard thin box with a piece of pipe insulation on only the outer lip is not sufficient the way FedEx handles boxes these days.
Interesting... the quote they sent me back on Friday includes a charge for beefier packaging and this line "We have been experiencing an increase in damage by the shipping company therefore we have upgraded our boxes which is the reason for the packaging charge."
Did you pay for this fee, or did they institute this after (because of?! :p) you?
My company makes claims on Fedex everyday with how they handle packages, and it's just clothing. Our packaging is constantly refined due to their "care and handling" of boxes.
