Handbrake not coming up all the way

    Hi,

Need to figure out what exactly i need since there are a few parts that could be culprit. When i release the handbrake, it pops back up, however, doesn't pop all the way back as my handbrake light stays on. I have to pull it up a few times (combined with pulling on the handbrake release handle) to get it stuck up just right. I first thought that maybe its the shock, but then i figured it could also be some springs that are in the system. I used the diagram below for reference. Also, FCP euro/amazon don't have those springs (if they are a culprit), any other place to find them?

It could also be the cables. If they get rusty in the housings, all sorts of strange things happen

Which US e38 came with a handbrake?

EDIT: noticed you say s62, so this is a swap? Going to be a plethora of possibilities if so.

Handbrake / foot pedal powered, but still a handbrake.

Disconnect the cable at either part 13/19, or at 21 - where the cable attaches to the arm. See if there is any binding.

This is quite a normal problem - the damper on the E-Brake mechanism needs to be replaced: https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...67#35511165407

Just lift up on the pedal with your foot when you pull the release cable. Problem solved!

Exactly what I do every time, haha. Come to think of it I think I’ve ever driven a car with a foot operated brake that I didn’t need to pull up on the pedal with my foot a little bit.

No I don't. Some who swap a manual in, drop an aftermarket e-brake in.

As others have said, just hold the handle out and pull up on it a bit with your foot. It is definitely the part everyone has been referencing and there honesty isn't much of a use replacing it unless it breaks in half or something.

The shock is a good place to start, but it could also be the adjustment of the cable under the car.
