This is a great thread and it seems pretty common the response these cars get. I could be in the minority here and it seems weird to say it but I got into BMWs out of frugality about 6 years ago. 2003 325i sport package with standard trans 150k on the clock for 5 grand. 5 thousand dollar car that gave me more enjoyment than any other car in 25 years of driving history.

Enter the m roadster about 2 years ago, nice example, much better today than I bought it. 7 thousand dollar car. Everyone here can appreciate the fun factor, coupe or roadster, 1.9 or s54
I'm in that (low dollar) minority too - I'm happy the roadsters' prices haven't gone too high. I was considering an similar vintage Miata and realized their prices are too high for me and that's one of the reasons I got my 96 Roadster. The prices make it an entry point into the BMW world, which I'm glad I discovered.

I looked at a number of different convertible offerings before I bought my Z3 and for MY money the fit, finish, and performance made the decision very easy.

Even those who pay a premium price for an exceptional Z3 are still getting a bargain. Nothing else in the same price range matches the build quality and driving experience. I paid over $20k for my 2000 M and had no problem insuring it for agreed value of $25k. Getting a good one for under $10k is an amazing buy.

You can’t have everything. Where would you put it?

That's exactly what I said when I traded my 16 yr old 944 in on my 99 coupe. And it was true, over the past 21 years I've spent way less on upkeep on the BMW than the Porsche. And I still get way more and compliments than I ever got in the P'car - split 50/50 between those who have no clue and those that do with an accompanying .
