I have a certified 2014 BMW 320 xi (warranty expired last year) that we just purchased couple of years ago in 2017 and its brakes locked up while driving and caught fire. The dealer is saying that it was caused due to DSC module failure that needs to be replaced and costs 5k. Every time it use to rain we use to experience the car braking on its own so not sure how that was connected. Any suggestions? I cannot afford to pay 5K and shocked this happened to a recently bought certified car. Only about 30k miles on it.
Lol, never heard of such a conditon as DSC cannot apply brake pressure by itself.. finishing for free stuff at the dealer..
Caught fire.. ya need to elaborate on what caugt fire
Suggestion so far, sell it

You need to go to an independent bmw shop for starters and I have never heard of this happening and I have been working with bmw for freaking 20 years stop going to the dealer
Yes I agree, will be taking to an independent dealer but as of right now it is at the dealership and they are saying that because of the malfunction of the DSC module the braking system locked up and due to the friction in the brake/tire/caliper, the brake pad caught fire. They quoted 5300 just for the module so, in a jam right now. it is only at about 30k miles, bought certified couple of years ago.
Seized caliper can cause that concern pay the checkout fee you agreed to on write up and tow it away from them. Should be that simple...

Gee, was there any clue the brakes were stuck???
Anyone who continues to drive a car with the brakes holding hard enough to catch fire shouldn't be behind the wheel anyway.
Sell your car, turn in your driving license and take the bus.
If you can leave two black stripes from the exit of one corner to the braking zone of the next, you have enough horsepower. - Mark Donohue
No sign, the malfunction of the DSC(according to the dealer) caused it to lock up middle of the highway so couldn't just stop the car middle of the road. By the time I pulled over it was too hot.
Find an reputable indie shop that specializes in bimmers at www.bimrs.org. Pull the fuse(s) fir the ABS to see if the brakes release. Otherwise, have the car flat bedded to the shop.
