Hi, my 2001 740il had a timing chain failure yesterday. I need to replace it with something tomorrow if possible. I drove a 2011 x3 tonight and liked it, and have an appointment tomorrow to drive a 2009 x5. Both are right at the 100k mileage and both are the same price. The 2011 needs tires and the bmw dealer agreed to do it at no cost. The other one I don’t know about yet, and it is at an independent dealership. Anything to look for on these? I don’t know much about the bmw suvs. Thanks

Make sure to get one with a brand new start button! Proper replacements are a b**** to find! ha!
1) Check the window trims and rubber seals. Good indicator of where the vehicle was stored (inside/outside). Especially sunroof trim.
2) Check for oil leak out the passenger side valve cover
3) Check the date on the battery if you can, mine took a crap 2 weeks after purchase from dealer with no indication.
Other than that if you run it with some gusto on the test drive and no hiccups, they're solid cars.
Thanks! I ended up with a 2013 X5 M-Sport with the 6 cylinder turbo.
