    2 series fob not working

I got a 2017 2 series grand tourer, with keyless start
Just want to pick your brains quickly please.
I took my car for a quick drive, when i got home the fob stopped working. The car wouldn't detect it. It wont lock and unlock it. Wont start unless i put the fob next to the steering column. I changed the battery but it didn't fix the issue.

My spare fob works absolutely fine.

I started the car, then turned it off, kept the unlock button pressed, and pressed lock 3 times. But didn't do anything.

What brand is the new battery? If you get close to either rear fender (wing for you brits!) does the remote lock/unlock function work? I think the antenna for this function is in the rear windshield (windscreen).

The new battery is duracell. My spare key works absolutely fine. Which made me think its not an antenna issue.
I walked around the whole car pressing the button but no luck.
    But thanks anyway

Duracell is a great brand. The battery was likely made by Varta in Germany. Ok, try swapping the batteries between the fobs. If the fob operates the same way then the fob is bad.

Just swapped batteries but same issue.
Its odd the faulty fob wont lock/unlock the car. But will start the car if i hold it next to the steering wheel.

    Thanks for your help

As noted there are 2 separate circuits in the fob.

Oh right, possibly a antenna issue then? Or better off getting a new key?

I think that’s your only option. Hold your breath when the dealer tells you the price! Dealers make a ton of money on fobs.

They're kinda pricey, just be thankful you had a spare to use for now.

Call around to different dealers to see what each charges for a fob.
