I have a 2001 330CI convertible. I just fixed the hinges and motor for the convertible top, but found one of the shocks (atleast it looks like a shock) in the convertible top was broken.
It doesnt look like its an actual shock , there is nothing inside it so it might just be used as a stopper. I was thinking of just using JBWeld and putting it back together if I cant find one.
The part number is VG-1002310.
I cannot find this part anywhere on the internet.
If anyone knows where I can find this please let me know. thanks for any help.
It's a gas strut.
To find the part number, go to www.RealOEM.com. Put the last 7 digits of your VIN number into the search tool. You can then browse the expanded parts diagrams for the part numbers specific to your car.

Thanks. That worked. But its a no go on the part, looks like that is actually part of the top lock mechanism and I cant buy it seperately.
There will be gas strut replacement person/business somewhere in the NY state. Give them the fully open length, fully closed length, diameter of the cylinder and the fittings on each end. Gas struts are a uniform type of part, not many variations in design, so they will be able to match one up for you. I did this for the gas struts on a Z3 soft top here in New Zealand and it worked great.
