M30 hp limit on pump gas

What is the general rule for hp limit before needing to switch to e85 on m30. It seems any post where someone approaching or surpassing 500whp was on the corn juice.

Reason I ask is because I was gifted a meth injection kit which I am on the fence with returning. Currently have 3x12x20 something a-a intercooler and hx40 super. I would like to get around 500, but not much desire to surpass it.

Many variables in this rule of thumb discussion, but a couple things to remember:

    • "E85" out of Sheetz pumps is always E70+-2 according to my ethanol sensor. If you go this route, absolutely tune for E70, not E85. Sheetz is still a reliable source for this fuel to run 24/7 at around $2.10/Gal. It is NEVER true E85 though. I don't have any other competing stations for "E85" down here in Raleigh. I will cry when Sheetz stops carrying their flex fuel.
    • General cross over (93oct) limit is around 14-18 psi on 93oct. This may be lower depending on CR and internals you are running.
    • Most turbos yield close to 14-18hp / psi until they reach choke points. Newer ($$) turbos are near the 18hp end, most turbos I see being used here are near the 14-15hp/psi end.
    • M30 has an old head design that doesn't flow very well and makes roughly 200whp NA. The "15psi double hp / double Bar" rule puts you at 400whp@15psi and about at the limit of 93oct, so that checks out with your 500whp requiring E85

Ya...not too many stations with e85 near me which is why I would possibly keep the methanol injection as alternative. Not too keen on the potential reliability issues though. I'm leaning towards returning it and blowing money on rear sway.

Curious farthest anyone has gone on 93 for a good period of time without blowing it up. I saw a post from Miller awhile back indicating 500whp with gt35r has been done. It didn't say if that was pump or e85.

Just my two cents - the lag with the 12v head and that big turbo is going to be epic. I think I'd try to clone the Alpina B10 Biturbo engine instead.

I had the hx35, but wasn't doing it for me. May have been the log manifold I had. Went tubular and modified the 35 to a 40. I can always put back the 35 hotside if its overly laggy and have 35/40 hybrid. Can't wait for the warmer weather and getting tossed back in my seat when it hits.
