I have a 2012 bmw x5 xdrive35i and it is leaking oil. I have pinpointed it to be coming from the boost solenoid which is on the passenger side of the engine beside the valve cover. It has a vacuum line coming from the valve cover and going to the solenoid. The solenoid is full of oil and when I pull the vacuum line off that goes to the valve cover oil is dripping out. Should there be oil in that vacuum line that goes to the boost solenoid? If so is the solenoid bad if its leaking oil? If not why would oil be coming out right there?
Nothing, no one has run across this on the n55 motor?
Oil in vacuum system = leak in vacuum pump. I would remove vacuum pump, replace seal(s), flush vacuum lines including brake booster.
Also the vacuum reservoir is molded into and part of the valve cover. If cracked, it will draw oil mist from the crankcase into the reservoir, then into the pressure converter. This seems to be more likely in your case.
Thanks for your reply, I think its my valve cover too. I recently replaced the valve cover with a new one from ecs. Is this vacuum reservoir/pressure converter where the boost solenoid gets its vacuum from?
Hi,
It looks that I have the same problem. A lot of oil in the vacuum reservoir filling the vacuum ports and the solenoid. N55 engine
Car has 82000 miles so I replaced the valve cover with a new oem one. Is that going to fix the oil in the vacuum lines?
What happened in your case? did you need to replace the vacuum pump? Is there a point to replace only the diaphagram on the vacuum nozzle? I can sell they sell some kits in ebay
