    284 or 292 camshaft with 0.68 mm head gasket

    I am upgrading my engine , a 318i engine for my e21. The plan is to use a head gasket of 0.68 mm thick to get a compression ratio of 1:11 . Also i want to install a camshaft of 284 or 292 degrees with other valve springs and use Solex PHH 40 carbs. I am not sure if the pistons are going to hit the valves with the thin head gasket of 0.68mm . Does anybody have experience with this setup?

    Compressed gasket thickness?

    Only way to know is mock it up. If had a known compressed gasket thickness could do some figuring mocking up without the gasket. Would need to install some test springs on cyl 1 valves. Place the head on the block bare with cam installed. Roll the cam to max lift; lobe pushing full open on the valve; additionally push on the valve with test spring with dial indicator mounted on the top of the spring retainer. See distance till hits the stock piston. No idea but plenty of guys run a schrick 292 with stock pistons BUT not with that thin of gasket. Could be contact if not measured. If want someone thats probably done it already also could ask on the 2002faq forum.

    325is, 96 M3 Euro
    pistons may also hit the head, normally around 1mm is better
    BMW E30 325is M20B33 in the making....... ITB's, roller rockers and stroked to the hilt
